Foyle qualifiers final to take place this evening

THE 12 Qualifiers for the overall prize final in the Golf Store Europe 2 Day Open were identified after the re-scheduled competition was completed at Foyle, on Saturday.

Day One: Jamie Logue (8) 41 points; Paul McDaid (10) 40 points; Chris Lynch (7) 40 points; Sean McEleney (24) 40 points, Jim McFadden (12) 39 points and Martin Kivelehan (5) 38 points.

Day Two: Darren McDaid (18) 42 points; Martin Gallagher (24) 41 points; Martin McEleney (19) 38 points; Joe Bradley (20) 38 points; Declan McKinney (13) 37 points and Stephen Doherty (12) 37 points,

All the above qualifiers are asked to report to the Golf Reception for the Final for the tee time at 5pm sharp today (Wednesday).

After tonight’s competition, Mr Captains Prizes for Ladies at 11am. The Past Captains Trophy/Press & sponsors day takes place tomorrow at 1.30pm.

On Friday Captains, Ladies, Gents and Juveniles 9 Scramble and Putting Competition with a Shot Gun Start at 5.30pm, takes centre stage, while on SaturdayMr George Fitzpatrick’s Captains Day will be staged and the Club Sweep will be down for decision on Sunday.

While the Annual Mid Summer Open Stableford sponsored by Fyfes Motor Factors played at Foyle on Wednesday attracted an excellent entry with 110 plus competitors taking to the pristine Ballyarnett fairways on a fine day for golf.

Mark Doherty (21) made full use of the favorable conditions to post an outstanding winning score of 46 points five points behind in second place was Gary Cassidy (8) on 41 points with Ben McDaid (17) producing his best form of the season to take third place after a break of tie finish when he scored 39 points.

The Gross winner was Stephen Martin who scored 36 points, Greencastle’s Bernard Kelly (4) with 38 points won the visitor prize.

The back nine was claimed by Anthony Faulkner (18) after he finished with 22 points and David Meehan (15) with 41 pointsw on the juvenile prize, while Lorna Thompson (17) with 22 points won the Ladies nine hole competition.

Meanwhile Dan Hacker (Director of Golf) and John Burton (Club Captain) from Welcombe Golf Club, Stratford upon Avon, at the first tee, Faughan Valley Golf Centre, before hitting their first ball in their club captains charity event of playing on four golf courses in four different countries in one day, supporting breast cancer care and prostrate cancer.

Dan and John drove the first ball at Faughan Valley at 4.15am, and after 18 holes of golf they were taking off from City of Derry Airport before 8am heading to Machrihanish GC in Scotland, their third course was in Anglesey GC, North Wales, and finishing off at their home course.

The duo finished the 18th hole at Welcombe shortly after 10.30pm.

The lads would like to thank Faughan Valley Golf Centre for their support, Peter Bradley and all the people they met at Quaywest.
