Foyle set-up City of Derry encounter

FOYLE and Bushfoot travelled to Northwest on Sunday for the preliminary match in this year's Barton Shield Competition with the winner going forward to play City of Derry in the first round back at the same venue on Sunday.

The Foyle Team gained their first ever Barton Shield victory by two holes, with Damien McKenna and Martin Kivelehan losing by 2 holes and Stephen Martin and Paul McGuigan winning their Match by 4 holes.

While Foyle Golf Club President Mr Rob Gallagher invites all club members to play for his President's Prize on Saturday, June 19 all members playing on the day should enter their names on the time sheet provided in the Golf Shop on or before Monday, June 14 when the draw for playing partners will take place.

While the over 50's confined competition, which took place last Thursday was won by Tony Walker (16) after he scored 41 points and a point behind in second spot was eight handicapper John Spence.

With the club enjoying a bumper week for all competitions it was no surprise that there was a large turnout for Mr President Alan Mongomery's annual competition the Campsie Paper Company Mixed Foursomes.

In the gathering dusk the last group provided the eventual winners with Kealan Quigg and Rachel Chambers amassing 40 points to lift the title off an aggregate handicap of five.

Lifting the second prize was the impressive team of Brian Long and Michelle O'Sullivan with a fine 39 points.

Third place was taken by the ever present Maurice Quigg and Betty McBride with 38 points while the experienced pair of Ciaran and Veronica Burke showed the youngsters how to finish a competition with a neatly compiled 36 points.

Today (Wednesday) sees the PGA Tankard qualifier take place, while on Friday, the Open Stableford takes centre stage to book a tee time telephone 71352222, while on Saturday, Alan Harkens Memorial Trophy in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, which will be sponsored by the Trust Caring and Nursing Agency, is up for grabs. While on Sunday, the club sweep is down for decision.
