Front nine efforts do the trick for Jimmy at rainswept Silverwood

It was a mixed day of weather at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday with the early starters getting the best of it and the afternoon starters having to deal with heavy showers.

The winner with a nett 64 was Jimmy Magee thanks to a front nine score of 41 with four pars at the 1st, 3rd 4th and 7th holes, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 9th hole.

His back nine of 46 was not as impressive with two double bogeys at the 11th and 14th holes, five single bogeys and two pars at the 15th and 18th holes, but was still good enough to win by two shots.

In second place was Eugene McKeever with a nett 66, he had a gross 75 with a front nine of 37 that had one birdie at the 7th hole, three bogeys at the 2nd, 6th and 8th holes and five pars. His back nine of 38 had one birdie at the 18th hole, two bogeys at the 10th and 16th holes and six pars for a solid round of golf.

In third place was Paul Lavery with a gross 74. He had a front nine of 35 with three birdies at the 2nd, 7th and 9th holes, three pars at the 1st, 4th and 6th holes and three single bogeys. His back nine of 39 included two bogeys at the 15th and 17th holes and seven pars for a great round.

The gross prize was picked up by James Noble with a level par round of golf. His front nine of 33 included three birdies at the 4th, 8th and 9th holes, only one bogey at the 3rd and five pars. His back nine of 39 contained one birdie at the 18th hole, five pars at the 10th, 12th, 13th 14th and 15th holes and three bogeys, for a excellent round of golf considering the weather.

Fourth place went to Philip McConville with a nett 68. He had a front nine of 35 with one birdie at the 1st hole, one bogey at the 5th hole and seven pars, his back nine 40 had three bogeys at the 11th 16th and 17th holes and six pars.

Fifth place went to Eugene McKeever Jnr with a nett 69, he had a front nine of 36 with one birdie at the 9th, two bogeys at the 3rd and 4th holes, and six pars. His back nine 36 included two birdies at the 11th and 18th holes, one bogey at the 16th and six pars, for a level par round of golf.

The junior prize was won by Dara Morgan with a nett 75.

The senior prize was won by Henry Noble with a nett 71.

The mid-week sweep winner was John Miller with 43 pts.

Section prizes were as follows:

0-12 Shane Mulholland nett 69; 13-18 Paul Hamill nett 70; 19-28 Gerry Canning nett 72.

Members are all looking forward to this Saturday as it is Captain’s Day and there is certain to be a big turn out.
