GARRY OPENS UP AT THE PORT

Four handicapper Garry McGrotty took full advantage of the super weather on Thursday to win the Open Stableford event in Portstewart GC’s Open Series.

He scored 44 points playing the front nine in three under par, including an eagle three at the seventh, for 23 points. New member Paul Campbell belied his 23 handicap to register 42. This would have been 45 but for the 20 limit imposed for these opens.

Third place was claimed by Sammy McQuiston with his offering of 41 from a mark of eleven and fifth by eight man Michael Thompson on 40. Fergal Stewart’s 77 was good enough for the Best Gross category.
