Gary McCartney tops the Golfer of the Year table

AFTER the Yess Electrical sponsored competition (11th August), the scores in the quest for the Golfer of The Year title were collated.

Gary McCartney, who this season has won both the Darren Clarke Trophy and the Coburn Cup, has a 10 points lead. There are four Saturday competitions remaining so, with a good finish to the season, any one of the top 15 could win.

The top 15 are as follows: Gary McCartney 310 points; Shannon Drainey 300; Jonathan Brush 275; Adam McGregor 262; Garreth Moody 248; Patrick Magennis 236; Paul Simpson 226; Aaron Buchanan 224; Philip Mallon 213; John Convery 200; Matthew Mallon 184; Jonathan Shannon 182; Andrew Quinn 177; John McCormac 176; Billy Clarke 171.

The juvenile Golfers of the Year will soon be decided.

Michael Young leads the senior handicap category with 23 points. Patrick Magennis is in second place with 16 points.

Jack McKerr leads the juvenile handicap section with 18 points. Chrissy Burns is currently in second place with 16 points.

There is still a chance that Patrick Magennis could make history by becoming the first player to win both the senior and junior Golfer of The Year titles. Wouldn’t that be something?
