Gavin not blown off course

The weather on Saturday at Silverwood golf club was very wet and windy but that did not stop one player beating the elements and returning a fantastic score of a net 62.

Gavin McCabrey playing of a 10 handicap now 9, went around the course in level par 72 for this superb round of golf and best score of the day, he did not have the best of starts with bogeys at the 1st and 2nd holes and another one at the 5th hole but he recorded three birdies at the 3rd 6th and 8th holes and three pars at the 4th 7th and 9th holes for a front nine of 35 level par. His back nine did not start to well either with a double bogey at the 10th hole and another shot dropped at the 16th hole, but he recovered brilliantly with three birdies at the 11th 13th and 18th holes and four pars at the 12th 14th 15th and 17th holes for a back nine of 37 and total of 72 for a great round of golf considering the weather conditions.

In 2nd place with a net 68 was John Marley, John had a front nine of 37 which included one birdie at the first hole, three bogeys at the 5th 6th and 9th holes, with five pars at the remaining holes, his back nine again of 37 shots contained one birdie at the 18th hole, one bogey at the 15th hole with all the remaining holes played in par for a very steady round of golf .John is now playing off a five handicap.

In 3rd place with a net 68 was Daryl Patton, he had a front nine of 41 which included two double bogeys at the 1st and 2nd holes, three bogeys at the 6th 7th and 8th holes, three pars at the 4th 5th and 9th holes and one birdie at the 3rd hole, his back nine of 49 shots contained four double bogeys at the 10th 11th 14th and 17th holes one par at the 18th hole and the remaining holes played in par for his total of 90 net 68.

The gross prize was won by Fintan McAreavey with a gross 76, he had a great front nine of 35 with no bogeys and nine pars, his back nine did not start to well with a double bogey at the 10th hole and single bogeys at the 11th and 12th and 15th holes, he collected a birdie at the 14th money hole with a 2 and the remaining holes played in par for his total of 76.

4th place went to Frank Stevenson with a net 69, frank had a front nine of 39 shots with two double bogey at the 2nd and 5th holes and seven pars at the remaining holes, his back nine of 44 contained three pars at the 10th 13th and 18th holes, one double bogey at the 12th hole and the remaining holes played in one over par, for a total of 83 net 69.

In 5th place was Joseph Toland with a net 69, his front nine of 42 contained three pars, one double bogey, and five single bogeys, his back nine of 47 included three pars, three bogeys, and three double bogeys for his total of 89 net 69.

The senior’s prize was won by James Nelson with a net 70
