GOLF: Kilbride PS win Ballyclare GC competition

Ballyclare Golf Club has been running a series of coaching days involving local primary schools.

Pupils from Doagh, Kilbride, Ballynure, Ballyclare and Fairview primary schools were all involved with the programme which was delivered in recent weeks.

The coaching series, organised in conjunction with the Confederation of Golf Ireland ( CGI), involved visiting the schools for a golf trial day, three to four coaching sessions, playing a par-three tournament, and a final schools event held on Friday, June 19 at Springvale Road club.

All children involved received medals for participating and the winners lifting the trophy were Kilbride Primary. The team was made up of: Andrew Gault, Abbey Black, Louise Moore and Khristin Best.

Fairview Primary were runners-up. Their squad consisted of: Luke McDowell, Peter Baird, Zoe Wright and Leah McDonald.

With over 100 children coached over a five-week period, PGA Assistant professional coach Andrew Owens commented: “The children were great fun, encouraging and hopefully we will see them continue their journey into golf here at Ballyclare. I would like to thank Bob Fryers, Irwin Holland and Ivor Bartley for assisting in the coaching and playing session.”
