GOLF: McIlmoyle shoots and scores for victory

Former Institute winger, Ryan McIlmoyle’s decision to swap his football boots for golf spikes is beginning to pay off as he claimed victory in the club stableford competition at Roe Park last Thursday.

The ex-Limavady United man was forced to call time on his senior footballing career due to a long standing hip injury last year

However, he has clearly found a new home on the golf course after hanging up his boots as he scored two birdies and nine pars on his way to victory with 40 points.

Saturday’s Club Stableford results - 1, Shea Hogg 43pts; 2, Nigel Mearns 40; 3, Mervyn Brown 40.

The Autumn Pairs, sponsored by Eglinton Construction, continues with Colly Harkin and Martin McVeigh still leading with 162 points.

Alan Dallas and Eamon Barkley lead the chasing pack as they occupy second spot with 158 points.

With only two weeks remaining it’s still all to play for and certainly makes for an exciting finale.

The Autumn Pairs League also continues with Club Stableford competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
