Golf: North West’s Quigg wins Foyle’s Scratch Cup

The Total Golf sponsored Senior and Junior Scratch Cup took place at Foyle on Sunday.

The large entry of competitors from the local and further afield clubs enjoyed a fine day and North West visitor Kealan Quigg got his day off to the perfect start with a one under par round one, followed by another one under par round in the second round for a 140 total and the coveted Foyle Golf Club Scratch Cup title.

One of Foyle’s rising stars Caolan Dunn took second place with rounds of 73 and 70 for a 143 total. Damien McKenna finished third with two one over par rounds for his 144 total.

Ruari Moore topped the 5-9 Gross section with 157 on a break of tie from John Spence and the best first round gross winner was Paul McGuigan after he scored 73.

Best second round gross was won after BOT finish by Roe Park’s Kieran Berryman after he scored 71, Darren Mullan (7) with 143 points was the first overall nett and Dungannon’s Jack Madden (3) with 68 won the best second round nett.

The Rankin Machine Tool Services Open was won by Stuart Gauld (6) after he scored 38 points, second was Albert Gurney (13) after scoring 37 points and Ronnie Kennedy (21) with 36 points was third.

Gross winner was Scott Kennedy after scoring 30 points; Greencastle’s Conor McCourt (20) with 31 points won the visitor’s prize and Gary Kennedy (11) with 20 points won the back nine.

Over 50’s final was won by John J Gillespie (22) after scoring 37 points, second was Maurice Temple (15) and John Morrison (14) was third, the Senior Golfer of the year went to Jim McGrotty after scoring 107 points, David Stevenson also on 107 points was runner-up.
