GOLF: Sign up for Trolan’s SuperValu Golf Classic

THE countdown is on for the annual Trolan’s SuperValu Golf Classic.

This is the sixth year of the golf tournament in support of Action Cancer will be held on Thursday 7 July this year and organiser Patsy Trolan is hoping the local golf fraternity will continue their great support of the event.

“Once again, we are delighted and very grateful to Portstewart Golf Club for allowing us the use of their facilities on the day without charge, it will mean so much to the charity,” Patsy told Times Sport.

“Action Cancer is one of the best known local charities here in Northern Ireland. We all know of someone whose life has been touched by cancer and will have witnessed the misery and suffering associated with the disease.

“Members of Portstewart Golf Club can empathise, with the loss of so many good golfing friends in recent years. Action Cancer is a very deserving charity and is a leading light in the fight for freedom from cancer to all in our country.

“Numbers were down last year but the day still realised a total of £13,300 which was phenomenal and greatly appreciated by Action Cancer.

“I would like to thank all who supported the event last year. We had a turnout of 44 `four balls’, who all thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of The Strand Course.

“It was terrific to have visiting golfers in the prizes; it made their journey very worth while.

“The services of Action Cancer’s Big Bus will be available again this year. Services available on the day are, Breast Screening (woman 40 - 49 and 65+) 24 appointments; Male Health Checks 12 appointments; Listening Ear Service (for cancer patients and carers) four appointments; and Complementary Therapy four appointments.

“Anyone wishing to avail of these services can make an appointment by contacting Action Cancer on (028) 9080 3344. This is a terrific service for our local community but can only be offered on a first come first serve basis.

“Again, like last year, we are all having to tighten our belts, and surely we have all heard enough about, credit crunch, zero growth, and negative equity; so let’s all forget about it for one day and come to Portstewart Golf Club for a brilliant day of golf and companionship. I hope I can still rely on your support again this year.”
