GOLF: Team 14 continue to hold slender lead at Foyle GC

Team 14 still hold a six point lead over Team 20 after the eighth and final full counting card in the Desmond Motors Winter League at Foyle.

Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Michael Henry and Dermott Harkin having accumulated 730 points from their eight cards maintain the lead in the qualifying section of the league as the teams now have to drop their lowest scores over the last two cards.

It will certainly make for an interesting and competitive finish to the Qualifying as the teams battle for the leading qualifiers accolade and the eight places on offer in the final.

In the Ladies Winter league after eight cards Team 2 consisting of Myra Gough, Lorna Thompson and Florence Rankin continue their pursuit of the title by accumulating 402 points and in doing so increase their lead at the top to 24 points with two rounds left to play, and with the teams dropping their lowest scores they seem to be in a very commanding position.

Once again in Week eight of the Foyle Sunday Society there was a tremendous turnout with the playing conditions much improved from previous week.

A three way 39 points break of tie was needed to decide the podium positions with Kevin Dunn taking top honours virtue of his Birdie at the 17th Hole as the tie break went to the last two holes with Cormac McGeady and Martin Moran finishing second and third respectively.

The Desmond Motors Winter League Qualifying ends this coming Sunday, while the Turkey Competitions continue daily.
