Golfer Gareth finds some form again at Galgorm

He may not have won or finished in the top ten at the NI Open, but Lurgan golfer Gareth Shaw set off for Finland this week for the GANT Open, with a new found confidence.

So far this year he has struggled on the Challenge Tour, also missing tournaments with a recent back injury.

However, at Galgorm last week he showed glimpses of the form that saw him finish tied fifth at The Irish Open in 2013 with scores of 73, 64, 72 and 71 to finish on -4.

After a number of missed cuts it was a good feeling to be playing on the final day.

“Yes it was great to make the cut after Thursday and that round of 64,” said Gareth.

“On Friday I played nicely and it certainly was a big lift. This is my best Challenge Tour score to date and it has given me some confidence.

“Unfortunately the putter was cold on Saturday and Sunday and I struggled with my irons.

“I feel close to playing well again but I am still hitting it very average. Yet, I feel happier.

“My back is still annoying me somewhat but not to the extent as before thankfully.

“It was nice to see some of the Lurgan members up supporting me I had Robert Emerson caddy for me and he did a good job.”
