Golfers still come out to Roe Park despite weather

Stevie Hamill came from out of nowhere to record his best finish of the year, taking second place with an excellent score of 41 points.

The ever improving Johnathan Forsythe took third place with 40 points.

The Club Stableford on Thursday saw the weather again threaten to bring proceedings to a standstill but the course held up well and who else but seasoned campaigner Robert Godfrey to come away with the win.

Robert fought the elements on his way to scoring a superb, but hard earned 35 points.

His Autumn Pairs partner Stephen Boyd also fought well for his score of 32 points and second place.

Saturday saw a big turnout in much better conditions in another Club Stableford.

The course was ready for someone to score big and Martin Rafferty duly obliged scoring an emphatic 46 points.

His fantastic round of 1 over par total included 11 pars and 3 birdies. Johnathan Forsythe continued his superb form this season scoring 41 points to take second place.

Johnathan has now improved his handicap from 18 at the start of the season to 10, not bad for a ‘leftie’.

Another big improver is Declan Quigley, who has finally learned how to hold the club the right way round, scoring 40 points to take third place.

After starting the season with a handicap of 20, he is now down to 16 with his goal of reaching single figures not too far away.

The fifth week of The Autumn Pairs sees new leaders in the form of Sammy Murphy and Alister Sproule who lead with 192 points.

Second place is occupied by previous leaders Derek Nicholl and Alan Rankin on 190 points.

Sitting in third place are Declan Quigley and Liam Berryman with 187 points

With only one week to go and only the top four qualifying for the play offs, it’s anybody’s game as only 10 points separates the top 8 teams.

The Golf Shop at Roe Park remains as busy as ever providing services such as custom club fitting, loft and lie, re-grips, re-spikes, golf equipment cleaning and trade-in’s amongst other services.
