Grimes secures July’s K Club spot

Sunday’s Lombard Trophy Qualifier at Foyle was again very well supported as the competitors took to the Ballyarnett fairways looking to secure a trip to the K Club (Palmer Course) with the Club Professional for the competition Area finals on Monday July 13.

Inform 18 handicapper Brendan Grimes will surely be the envy of the club after returning a fine score of 42 point to come home top qualifier and gain the coveted trip to Dublin and in doing so also saw his handicap reduced to 15, runner up Sean McEleney finished with a very credible 40 points.

The second of the seasons Foyle Friday Open Stableford competitions was dominated by the category one players with three handicapper Shane McClean winning by four points from four handicapper Martin Tope.

Shane produced an excellent one under par round covering the front nine in two under par, then coming home in one over par for his 40 points winning total.

Wednesday’s Holmpatrick Cup Qualifier saw the former All Ireland Champions in this competition Stuart Gauld and David Knox emerge as the leading qualifiers with a fine 41 points and will represent the club in the County Finals on the 13th August at Ballybofey and Stranorlar where they will be hoping to progress further having qualified after a lapse of a few years.

Today (Wednesday) the Club Stableford takes centre stage, while the Lady Captains Charity Open (Car for Hole-In-One) in aid of Derry Well Women Centre will be down for decision on Friday, the Darren Clarke Perpetual Trophy Qualifier will be staged on Saturday and the club stableford competition takes place on Sunday.
