Hannah is comeback queen of the green!

HANNAH Henderson added another accolade to her growing golfing CV last week.

The 12-year-old Broughshane girl produced some gritty golf to claim the Ita Wallace Trophy Plate competition at the Lancome Irish Women’s Close Championships in Co Carlow.

Hannah’s challenge looked to have run its course in the semi-final, where she was three holes down to opponent Niamh Giblin (Dun Laoghaire) as she teed off at the 13th hole.

However, she birdied that hole, won the 14th and 16th to level the match and then clinched victory at the final hole after her opponent was unfortunate to lose a ball.

But if that semi-final comeback was impressive, her performance in the final was positively Lazarus-like.

She was four down after 12 holes to Warrenpoint’s Tara Gribbem but went on a splurge of birdies at 14, 16 and 17 and the match was level as the players walked to the 18th tee.

The hole was halved in pars but the momentum was with Hannah and she duly clinched the trophy by winning the first tie hole.
