Felix Healy, deputising as skipper, did a fantastic job guiding Sean Coyle and the jet-lagged Robbie Kennelly, who has spent the last three months playing golf down in Australia, to an impressive front nine of 43 points in challenging conditions.

Their back nine got off to a slow start scoring only two points at the 10th, however they put that temporary setback behind them and scored an incredible 14 points over the 13th and 14th holes which ultimately was the deciding factor in claiming victory.

Special mention must go to Sean Coyle who counted in 14 of the 18 holes, including every hole on the back nine.

The team of John Hancock, Fred Young, Graham Hepburn and John Flynn scored an outward nine of 40 points and really turned it on in the back nine scoring 44 points, however scoring only three points at the short but tricky 16th hole cost them dearly as they came up one point shy of the eventual winners.

This week at Prehen starts today (Wednesday) with the Meal Deal competition. Tomorrow sees the Gents Open take centre stage; on Friday it’s the Early Bird competition which costs £10 before 11.30am; there will be a Easter Fourball Better Ball competition on Saturday, while on Sunday there is an Open Stableford competition down for decision.

Following the drive in which 64 members took part in a very enjoyable nine hole scramble, with Lady President Avril Gallagher, Shane McClean, Kevin Crumley and Finbar Logue producing a birdie fest to take top honours, the Shane McClean inspired team rolled in five birdies for a three-shot winning margin

Second was Gay Shaw, Martin Kivelehan, John Duffy and Philip Sheerin, while Brenda Cooke, Jamie Logue, Damian McColgan and Jim McGrotty were third.

Foyle Sunday Society Skipper Declan McKinney held his away day at Ballyliffin on Sunday where the travelling party played the Glashedy Links and on a day when scoring was very difficult because of the strong winds.

Neil Cooke (12) coped best with the trying conditions to produce a fine winning score of 32 points.
