After making some shrewd selections, Team Captain and President, Brian Bates was delighted with his teams performance in a day full of heavy showers and sometimes windy conditions.

Fourteen teams received a warm welcome and by the look of some of the scores, quite a few were taken by surprise by just how difficult this short course can be.

Considering the weather, the course was in tip-top condition and there were very few negative reports with most teams praising the course rather than criticising it.

It was four local teams, within a five mile radius of Lambeg, who returned with the best scores and qualified.

The results were as follows: 1st Balmoral G.C. 309, 2nd Dunmurry G.C. 315, 3rd Lambeg G.C. 321 and 4th Malone G.C. 326.

Balmoral play Malone at Aberdelghy in the next round and Dunmurry play Lambeg at Malone before June 2.

John Leydon, (24) finished in third position with 41 pts.

John has been gradually creeping back to form after recovering from a back injury last year. His score could have been even better but for the triple bogeys at the 3rd and 10th.
