Holmes claims Easter Sunday competition

A very busy Easter period at Roe Park saw the great spell of weather continue with no fewer than four club competitions and an Open.

One of which was the Easter Monday open stableford sponsored by Oscar Harper Motors.

The top three places all claimed with the same total of 41 points it was Andy Young who took the victory with a superior back 9 score. second place was claimed by Johnathan Forsythe with Michael Mullan taking third and big hitting Shane McGahon from Faughan Valley Golf Club won the gross prize.

Liam Berryman shot 21 points to win the front nine prize whilst Mark Loughery played some great golf to win the back nine prize with 24 points.

Nearest the pin prizes at the 9th and 17th were won by Alan Loughery and Ryan Magee respectively.

A club stableford on Easter Sunday saw John Holmes secure an emphatic victory with a superb score of 42 points. Ryan Scott was the nearest challenger taking second place with 38 points and Ricky Cochrane took third with 37 points.

Thursdays’ club stableford was another close contest won by Alan Loughery with 41 points and Michael Logue took the runner up spot with the same score but just beaten on count back.

Young Conor McKay claimed third place with 40 points and Ricky Cochrane won the gross prize.

Roe Parks’ Ulster Cup team travelled to Hilton Templepatrick with a 4 point lead hoping to progress to the next round but unfortunately it wasn’t to be their day as they were beaten 6&1.

with the Easter holidays now over another busy week ahead sees the usual club competitions including a club stableford sponsored by Limavady Travel on Saturday and a may day open stableford sponsored by Frank Owens Bar.

Meanwhile Faughan Valley’s Ulster Cup team, captained by Mr Trevor Lewers defeated Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh by 8.5 points to 5.5 points.

This is a tremendous feather in the cap of Faughan Valley Golf Club since Donegal reached the semi-finals last year.

The next round promises to be a mouth-watering event on Saturday, May 17th when they host local rivals Rathmore from Portrush.

The return leg will be held at Rathmore Golf Club on Saturday, May 24th.
