Holt Shield win for Carrick
Carrickfergus Golf Club secured a narrow, but merited, second-leg win against Fortwilliam to win the Holt Shield title recently.
Trailing 3-2 and seven holes from the away leg, things didn’t look good for Carrick despite five and four victories from Karl Willis and Gary Barbour. Leslie Lyle was all square in his match, and Duncan MacLoed and Drew Meeke were both trailing by three holes.
Lyle was unlucky only to square his match and MacLoed eventually went down three and two.
However, a magnificent fightback from Meeke, who was still three down with six to play, saw him win on the 18th green.
