Honours go to Matt

THE Wednesday Sweep at Lurgan had a lot less entries and there were just two net prizes on offer.

With a well constructed total of 32 points victory went to Matt Connolly. The 12 handicapper began with a satisfactory opening seven holes. Pars at holes two, three and eight were acceptable but a double bogey on the sixth went against the grain.

However this regular Wednesday golfer made huge inroads on the inward seven. He countered a bogey on the tenth with a birdie on the last. In between he pencilled in par figures on his card. He had an one point margin of victory.

Runner-up was Paul McKernan with an equally pleasing return of 31 points. Playing off a 14 handicap Paul was well to fore through the opening seven with a run of pars at holes one, two, three and eight. He kept the momentum going through the back seven with pars at holes eleven, twelve and seventeen. A birdie on the last sealed his fate. After a win on the previous midweek sweep he added to his stature with this runner-up finish. With a total of 29 points Tom Lamb was the only other golfer under par in the sweep.

The other useful tallies came from the following: 28 pts: Denis McInerney; 27 pts: John Forrester, Terry Eagers,

Gary McMahon had an early Christmas box as he managed the only ‘two’ in that competition. It came at the second hole.
