Hugh holes out the round of his life to take top spot in the Spring Medal

Postponed from the week before, the competition found the course in remarkably condition after a period of rain and week of the previous ten days.

Split into three sections 0-10, 11-18, and 19 and above, and the best scores came in Section two (11-18).

Fifteen handicapper Hugh took full advantage of the near perfect conditions to produce the round of his life. Hugh went out in 38 – three over par thanks to a birdie at the fifth and four pars and four bogeys.

On the back nine he only dropped two shots, and included a birdie three at the 17th - the rest of the holes played in par for 36 and an overall gross score of 74 for a nett 59.

Second place in Section two was Peter Quinn (11) with a nett 64. Out in 38 shots and back home in 37, Peter was very consistent complete with 11 pars and a birdie three at the 14th.

Match and Handicap convenor Pat McKnight (13) edged out Dunmurry President John Neill (11) for third spot on the better back nine after both returned nett 66s.

In section one (0-10), Michael Black (10) returned an excellent 77 returning 11 pars and seven bogeys for a nett 67 to win by one shot.

Shane McCotter (5) finished second thanks to a three over 73 with included two birdies at the fifth and 17th.

Third went to Roy McGrath (eight) who returned a nett 69. Roy will regret a slow start to each nine - dropping four shots at the second and third and two shots at the 10th and 11th.

Best in Section three (19-28) when to Mel Campbell (19) with a nett 68. Mel looked a long way off victory after recording three triple bogeys on the front nine, however nine pars put him back on track.

Second place went to Fred Coyle (20) with a nett 69, however he will regret dropping four shot on the last two holes of each nine. Third spot went to Andy Linton (19) thanks to a great back nine, the highlight a birdie two at the 16th.

The gross prize when to University student Christopher Morgan (1) with a 71, clinching the prize in style with a birdie three at the last.
