Hyndman wins a free year membership at Faughan Valley

The Parkes Hire (Plant & Machinery) confined stableford competition was held on St Patrick’s Day and had a Years Free Membership, as well as a full compliment of other prizes on offer.

Weather conditions were absolutely superb and obviously suited Paul Hyndman who took the top prize and who can now enjoy a full season of golf courtesy of our generous sponsors.

The 20 handicapper secured an impressive 42 points to hold off Edwin Gallagher (15) who scored 41 points and third place went to Norman Woolston (18) after he finished with 41 points.

The gross winner was Paul Duffy after scoring 74 gross points; Kevin Hunter hit the longest drive at the 11th hole; nearest the pin at the 10th hole was Ryan Rutherford.

Martin Carlin (17) with 23 points won the front nine and the back nine went to Kenny Richmond (9) after he too scored 23 points.

Faughan Valley Golf Club’s Spring League 2015, kindly sponsored by Best Western Plus White Horse Hotel, will run until Saturday 11th April 2015.

Week Two began on Sunday, March 15th and members are reminded that from this date, restrictions about playing from the fairway will be lifted. However, 6” placing on the fairways only, will be permitted.

They are also reminded that all bunkers are now back in play.

Competitors will play off the Green Tees and must return 1 card per week, with their 5 best cards counting at the end of the competition. This is a non-qualifying competition for which winter handicaps will be used.

While coming out on top on the long and demanding City of Derry course was Mark Sheridan (16) in the Joe Ramsey Trophy.

Runner-up on a break of tie was Brendan Duffy with John Monaghan taking third spot. Front nine was won by the consistent Richard Burton with long time member of The Thursday Society, Brian Stanford winner of the back nine.

Presentation of prizes will take place on Skipper’s Day, Saturday April 9.

City of Derry announce that The Thursday Opens resume on April 2.

Past captain and past president Brian Long with team members Malachy Jackson, Peter Deans and Margaret Porter took the top team prize at the St Patrick’s Day scramble at Prehen, with a fantastic nett score of 56.0.

Second team on the day was Cormac McKeone, George Phillips, Martin McCormick and Jim McDaid with 57.2 nett.

Congratulations to head greenkeeper Conor McLaughlin for presenting the course in great condition. Members were highly complimentary regarding the changes carried out to the course over the winter months.

Meanwhile with 19 rounds played and the best 14 counting in the Foyle Sunday Society Golfer of the Year Sean Sands has a commanding 21 point lead with the last round still to be added but there is still intense competition for the final placing in the top ten, Gary McElroy leads the way in the gross section.

The Paul’s Butchers Spring League Qualifying continues daily until this Sunday and the Turkey competitions continue daily.

The Easter Hampers are down for decision today (Wednesday) and Saturday, while Mr Damien Ball Foyle Sunday Society Captain’s Day’s takes place on Sunday and members are reminded to book their own tee times.
