There were some hardy competitors, however, who took to the conditions like a duck to water - an apt analogy in this case.

The winner of the sweep competition was Ronnie Anderson who, with a handicap allowance of fourteen shots, returned a total of twenty-eight stableford points.

Having scored eighteen points for the first nine holes, he then added ten points from the last four holes where he scored three bogeys and a par.

That last four hole total was two better than second-placed Allan Campbell, who also scored twenty-eight points for his round.

The sixteen-handicapper’s first nine holes accounted for nine of his handicap allowance which equated to twenty points and a pair of double bogeys on the eleventh and twelfth holes were punishing.

Third prize winner was Quinton McKee who, playing off a sixteen handicap, posted a total of twenty seven points, of which the last four holes were four points better than fourth prizewinner Chris Worthington.

McKee’s card contained five double bogeys but on a more positive note, he also managed a trio of pars which helped boost his points tally.

Fourteen handicapper Worthington also had twenty-seven points on his card at the conclusion of his round.

He looked to be in a very good position, having produced a total of twenty two points for the first nine holes, which he played in five over par gross.

But he ran into problems over the closing four holes and two bogeys, a double bogey and a non-event at the eleventh ended his hopes of finishing further up the prize list.

Raceview members will be hoping for an improvement in the weather conditions after a number of Saturdays of inactivity in recent weeks.
