Irons competition starts this week

Faughan Valley Golf Club held their annual under and over 50s confined club competition, which saw a good turnout in both competition.

The winner of the PFS Trophy for the under 50s was decided on a BOT between 19 handicapper Jason Donnell and Jonathan O’Connor (14) both carding 38 points with Jason taking first spot with a superior back nine.

While in the Ronnie Parkes Trophy for the over 50s the winner was Seamus Logue (16) who took first spot from Tony Griffiths (19) also on a BOT both carding 37 points.

On Sunday an Open Stableford competition, which was sponsored by Cornerstone Automation Systems, Campsie, saw first spot with 41 points going to Brendan Carton (20).

Second was 22 handicapper Eoghan Brolly who won on a BOT from Paul Duffy (6) both scoring 39 points.

The winner of the midweek Pork Store competition the winner was Richard Godfrey with 42 points.

This week seen the start of the Irons competition which will run for seven weeks, whilst this Saturday, a Stableford Competition is down for decision, and on Sunday there is a Two Man Scramble competition.

Meanwhile at two early birdies set up North-West’s Michael Bradley (8) for a convincing win in the Total Golf Thursday Open at Lisfannon last week.

Michael recorded an excellent birdie the first carding another at the par three 3rd hole to negotiate the front nine in 34 blows which equated to an excellent 23 points.

He played a total of 39 shots on the back nine for a further 18 points and a comfortable three points cushion over his nearest challenger.

The runner-up on Thursday was Eamon Quigley (10) who posted a steady 38 points to relegate the in-form Andy Walker (19) into third spot on the same score.

The gross prize was won by the club’s young rising star, Matthew Stainsby (6), with a 76.
