Irwin wins Captain’s Day

MR Terry Dornan’s successful Captain’s Day at Faughan Valley was claimed by Gary Irwin with 40 points.

While Kevin Hunter was second after a break of tie finish pipping William O’Brien, after the pair both finished with 39 points.

Glen Curran won the back nine with 19 points, Tommy Parkhill with 21 points claimed the back nine and Lauren Smallwoods won the ladies section after she scored 23 points over 12 holes.

Meanwhile there was a huge turnout for The Pearson’s Fine Foods Open Stableford at Prehen on Saturday and competition for the fabulous prizes was intense.

Played in very stormy but sunny conditions a fairly modest 38 points was the winning score and it was Aldwyn Leckey (12) that emerged from the pack in first place.

Martin McNulty (10) was second, the best of the players on 37 points just edging out Gary Brown (10) on a better back nine. Lester Moore (1) had 35 points to win the gross prize and the nines went to Tony Murray (24) and Paul McIntosh (14) with 21 points (break of tie) each.

A Dubliner and former junior member at Prehen Ryan Callan (4) playing out of Roganstown was the best of the visitors on the day with 31 points.

Lucy Smyth (21) was the leading lady having scored 28 points over the thirteen holes played and ladies branch secretary Christine Mitchell (27) finished in second place with 24 points.
