It’s a narrow lead in Veteran’s Cup for men from Banbridge

Team captain Brian Mulholland had studied the form of the veterans in the local club and he came up with what looked like a very strong team.

Brian was only too aware that Edenmore would be hard to beat. And he was right.

Brian went out in the top game partnering Peter Hillen and they lost 5 and 4 to Alistair Simpson and Darren Jowett. That was not expected.

Bobby Geddis and Sydney Pepper had to pull out all the stops to beat Stuart Rodgers and Stuart Cameron by 2 and 1.

The third game was very close all the way. Dennis Lockhart and Tom Fee were very relieved to get the better of David Temple and Malcolm Power by 2 holes up.

In the fourth and final game, Seamus McGrath and Verdun Bond got a half match against Tom Chapman and John Hart. Verdun had to sink a nasty 10 feet putt on the 18th green to secure that valuable half.

The score after the first leg is Banbridge 2.5 Edenmore 1.5.

It’s finely balanced with Edenmore having a slight advantage.

The second leg will be played at Edenmore on Wednesday 24th June.

Sweep result

Sunday 7th June

Eugene Weir joins Graham Shannon and Norman Robb as the only three players to have won the Sunday Sweep on two occasions this year.

It was a particularly rewarding day for Eugene as he split the 2’s pot with Alan Dale.

1st- Eugene Weir (5) Nett 31.5.

2nd- Damian Weir (4) Nett 33.

3rd- Paul Wylie (11) Nett 33.5

Practice pays off as

David Cherry wins the Open

Last Tuesday, David Cherry was spotted on the practice ground where he worked on his short game skills for several hours.

The practice paid dividends as David went out on Thursday and won the Open Stableford.

David, playing off 13, had 42 points and he bat Richard Coburn (12) by one point.

Aaron Buchanan (17) was third with 39 points.

Richard Coburn and Neil Comiskey split a sizeable 2’s pot between themselves.
