Jackson adds his name to list of winners at Raceview

The Wilsons of Rathkenny-sponsored stableford event at Ballymena Golf Club resulted in a new name coming to the fore.

Fourteen-handicapper Mark Jackson was the victor wit ha total of 42 points and on a better second nine from JJ Steven Bell.

Jackson scored equal nines of 21 points and his front nine total included a non-score on the par three seventh.

After starting the back nine with two bogeys and a double bogey, Mark completed his round with six straight pars.

Second-placed Bell had a dream opening nine of 23 points and although his second nine didn’t quite match those high standards, he still managed a further 19 points, with 10 of them coming between the 15th and 17th holes.

The next four prizewinners all scored 41 points, with the second nine again being the deciding factor.

Third nett prize went to Frank O’Boyle (15) who scored 22 of his 41 points on the second nine holes.

That was two better on the second nine than Derek Francey in fourth place.

Richard Campbell (7) was fifth after scoring 19 points on the second nine, while sixth-placed Cormac McQuillan (10) could only add 18 points to his impressive first nine total of 23. Cormac failed to scored on the 17th but his birdie on the final hole ensured he finished among the prizewinners.

The best gross score again came from Jonathan Law (3) who completed the course in one under par, 67 shots

GOLF SHOP OPEN

The Sunday open stableford, sponsored by the Golf Shop at Raceview, saw David Black (14) claim victory with a total of 42 points, after equal nines of 21.

Second place, a point further back, came Mark McGaughey (20) who finished strongly with five pars and a bogey from the last six holes.

Michael Smyth (5) claimed the third nett prize with a total of 40 poiints.

MAY DAY OPEN

The May Day Monday open stableford resulted in another of the club’s rich crop of young talent, Richard Mark, producing a winning score of 37 points.

The seven-handicapper won on a better second nine from another of the Raceview youth contingent, John Robinson (3), with a birdie on the final hole proving decisive.

The Wednesday open stableford resulted in Paul Stevenson (7) notching a victory by one point from William Owens.

Paul played the first nine with nine pars for 21 points, to which he added a further 18 on the second nine.

Owens (21) had equal nines of 19 points, which included a non-score on the par five third.
