Jefferson produces fabulous round at City of Derry

SAM Smallwoods' professional weekend at City of Derry got off to a cracking start on Saturday with his open stableford competition seeing the highest scoring of recent events.

Rob Jefferson (12) romped home with a margin to spare with a fabulous 44 point tally. David Jones (19) needed a better back six to best David Bratton while Bratton's back nine was enough to beat Bob McKimm! All finished on 42 points.

Kealan Quigg playing off scratch lifted yet another gross prize with 36 points. Kealan is in fine form coming into the senior scratch cup scheduled for this Sunday.

Anyone, playing of 9 or less and with ambitions to lift that cup is reminded that entries close today (Wednesday) and the draw for starting times is on Friday night. It will be available from the clubhouse on 71311610.

Anyone who likes to see good golf should pop out to Prehen when the competition is on because the field is looking pretty good at this stage.

Sam's weekend continued with the renowned Teams of Four event. With entry into the McCambridge Duffy sponsored City of Derry Golf Club Pro-Am (July 16th – July 18th) up for grabs there was always bound to be big field!

By the end of the day the team of Fred Young, John Hancock, PJ McGee and George Baldrick found that their 92 points was good enough to have bested the rest!

The ladies team of R Campbell, E Milligan, F McLaughlin and K McGuire grasped second place with a great 91 points. In third place came the much heralded team of Brian Long, Sean McKane, Maurice Quigg and Eric Watson.

Members and visitors are reminded that entry forms for the Pro-Am are now available from the Sam Smallwoods on 71311496. The field will again be made up of 52 PGA Professionals from the Irish Region playing along side teams of three amateurs in the McCambridge Duffy sponsored event.

As well as competing for over 3,000 worth of prizes the winning team, along with their Professional, will win an all expenses paid trip to the Catalunya region in Spain to compete in the Spanish Tourism Board Pro-Am. The cost to play in this year's event is 135 per member and 160 per non member and entry forms are available from the Pro Shop.
