Jim edges home by a point

It was the past Captain’s Memorial at Silverwood Golf Club on Saturday and once again there were a lot of great scores, the winner with 44 points was Jim Haddock.

Jim had 22 points on his front nine with four pars at the 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th holes, one double bogey at the 6th hole and four pars at the remaining holes.

His back nine contained one birdie at the 14th hole, two pars at the 10th and 15th holes, one double bogey at the 16th hole and five single bogeys for another 22 points and this was good enough to win by one point and continue with his recent good form.

In second place with 43 points was Aaron Beeton, his front nine returned 18 points with three pars at the 4th, 5th and 8th holes, two double bogeys at the 3rd and 6th holes, and four pars. His back nine was a lot more consistent with six pars at the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 18th holes and only three bogeys at the remaining holes for a great 25 points.

Third was Tom Blacker with 42 points with 17 points on his front nine thanks to two pars at the 4th and 9th holes. His back nine of 25 points included one birdie at the 13th hole, three pars at the 12th, 14th and 15th holes, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 11th hole.

The gross prize was won yet again by the impressive Fintan McAreavey with another sub-par round of two under gross 70.

Fintan had a fantastic front nine of 30 - five under par and had a great start to his round with an eagle at the first hole, followed by three birdies at the 4th, 8th and 9th holes.

His back nine cooled off somewhat with seven pars, one bogey and a disappointing double bogey at the 11th hole but it was still another great round of golf.

Fourth prize went to Niall Geoghegan with 40 points, he had 19 points on his front nine with four pars at the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 9th holes, four bogeys and one double bogey at the 5th .

His back nine of 21 points contained one double bogey at the 10th hole, one bogey at the 17th hole and six pars at his remaining holes.

In fifth place was Stephen Crossey again with 40 points. Stephen had 19 points on his front nine with three birdies at the 1st, 3rd and 8th holes, one double bogey at the 9th hole and five pars. His back nine of 21 points included one birdie at the 14th hole five pars, two bogeys and one no score at the 18th hole.

The senior prize was won by James Nelson with 37 points. The junior prize was won by Caolan Reynolds with 39 points.
