Jimmy is the new captain

The first meeting of the North East Golfing Alliance was held at Portstewart Golf Club last week and Jimmy Hamill was elected as their Captain for this season.

He and almost 90 players enjoyed good weather and Portstewart’s Strand Course was in superb condition too.

The prizes were dominated by the home club’s players and in a high scoring day some 36 points scorers did not make the leader board as Michael Moss will verify!

Marty Hughes and Norman Grills tied for top spot on 42 each with Marty winning through on the countback. Incoming Captain Jimmy Hamill took third by himself with 40 points scored and John Cameron fourth with 39.

Paddy McLaughlin, Eamon McCotter and Hugh Duffy took fifth, sixth and seventh places with 37 each while Castlerock’s John Hanson, who also scored 37, was the only player in the top twelve not from the host club.

Four 36 pointers filled the last places, Danny Alexander, Geoff Brown, Billy Cameron and John Jamieson.

All winning vouchers will be distributed at the Christmas event.

The next meeting of the North East Alliance will be at Castlerock GC on 31st October.
