John began modestly with single bogeys at the 1st and 2nd but from then, he scored five pars and two birdies until he reached the 10th. A double bogey here was his only slight set back and he soon cancelled that out with pars on the next three holes and another birdie at the 14th. Two single bogeys and two pars on the last four gave a magnificent 43 pts and his first win of the season. Andrew Burrell (13) was just pipped at the post when he returned with 42pts. A par at the 1st got Andrew off to a great start and single bogeys at the next three wasn’t bad either but a birdie and three pars over the next four holes put him in a very strong position. A couple more pars at the 10th and 12th kept him up there but he slipped at the fairly easy 14th with a double bogey after hitting the ball out of bounds into the pond. Andrew immediately hit back with a birdie at 15 and a further two pars at 16 and 17 secured second spot. Third place was taken by Paul Nelson (7) after a superb steady round of golf hitting no less than eleven pars in his round. Add to that, birdies at the 7th and 14th and your left with five single bogeys, a great display of steady golf to finish on 40 pts. Peter Morrison (14) also finished on 40 pts but lost out on the comeback. A “no score” at the 3rd and a double bogey at the tenth made the difference. Ivor Harron won the Best Gross.

In the Club Matchplay final, Alan Crockard (6), against all the odds took the championship after beating Chris Boyd (25) 5 and 4. Having to give Chris no less than 19 shots Alan was really up against it and needed to play at his very best. This he did and went into an early three hole lead. From there he never really looked back, taking it to a five hole lead by the time they reached the 12th. Chris held on with halves at the next two but it was inevitable that with the golf Alan was playing it was all over. Well done to both players on reaching the final in a great competition.
