Jonathan is the winner as successful Captain’s Day is held at Rockmount

Captain Glenn Willis had a very early start on his Captain’s Day on Saturday August 3, after overseeing final preparations on the course the Captain played the first shot of the day, he then saw the first competitors tee off at 06.09.

The past Captain’s the Gents Committee and green-keepers were then invited to a champagne breakfast; the Captain personally thanked the green-keepers for their work not only in preparing the course for Captain’s Day but for their work all year round and also thanked the past Captain’s for their help and guidance throughout the year.

The weather was kind to those that went out in the morning and early afternoon; the late starters had some rain after four o’clock and a short but heavy deluge after seven. The winning scores were exceptionally high on a course set up in pristine condition. Two players scored 40 points; Martin Sloan (14) was fifth, Paul Mearns (12) was fourth. Third place went to John McConnell (15). The longest drive at the eighteenth hole was won by Ryan Shanley and nearest the pin at the twelfth hole was won by Bill McBrien. The associate member’s prize was won by Colin Tang; Stephen Orr won the putting competition and the Ladies prize played over nine holes was won by Francis Lawther with last year’s winner Jan Lindsay second. The Past Captains prize was won by Stephen Clarke and the Gents Committee prize by Peter O’Hara. Scoring a tremendous 42 points to secure second place was Gregg Sterritt (06). Gregg also had the best gross of the day a level par 72, beating his nearest competitor by six shots. The best gross prize on the day went to Colin McClenaghan (02) with a gross score of 78. The Captain’s prize was won by Jonathan Doran (21) with an outstanding score of 44 points. Captain Mr Glenn Willis presented the prizes before commending the staff at Rockmount and acknowledging the committee’s at Rockmount for their support during his year.
