JONNY TAKES RATHMORE’S RAMSEY CUP

Seventeen handicapper Jonathon Dunbar captured the G Ramsey Cup at Rathmore on Sunday with a fine score of 40 points.

He finished in a five way tie but won out on countback over the final six holes. The seventh and eighth were not kind to Jonny as he logged two double bogies at them but otherwise his front nine was productive. He had carded 19 points at the halfway stage. The par five tenth gave up his only birdy of the day to boost Jonny’s chances but another double, a six at thirteen, nearly scuppered them. Steady on the last few holes and he could add 21 points to the card for a closing 40.

Rory Hamilton soared into contention with the best of the other 40 pointers, just losing out by a single point on the last six holes. Rory also birdied the tenth but had a blank at seven and three shots went west at thirteen and he had to be content with second spot. Darren Hull, Sammy Roxborough and Jon Neely had the final trio of 40 points between them.

Darren blanked seven and sixteen on his way round to lose out on the silverware while Sammy just dinged the seventeenth. He was able to score two birdies in each nine to compensate somewhat for the miss. Jon Neely birdied the second in three and the long tenth but too many single pointers saw him lose out on countback to finish fifth.

Ryan Cunningham took the best gross prize for his round of 72. Out in 39, four over par, Ryan hit three birdies on the trot, ten, eleven and twelve, to come back in 33 for his gross 72.
