Joseph Brush ends his season in style

THE Saturday 18 holes competitions are slowly but surely coming to an end for this year.

The one on September 29 was the third last. It will soon be Winter League time again (that starts on Sunday October 14).

Back to Saturday 29 when over 150 players tried to fit in a winning round before the season end.

The calculated standard scratch score was once again nett 67 or 38 stableford points.

Philip Strong (20), Shane Rooney (8), Kieran Magennis (5) and Trevor Mulholland (13) all equalled the CSS.

Alex Clarke (14), Cathal O’Neill (11), Vaughan Lamont (11), Rory Madeley (3), Colin Wilton (1) and Paul Wylie (11) all went one better with 39 points each.

Colin Wilton, star of the winning Senior Cowdy Cup team, won the best gross prize with a two under par 67.

Philip Mc Court (11), Brian Parkes (13), Gordon Enderson (24) and Laurence Bramall (13) all played really sound golf and all four finished with 40 points.

Brian Parkes was rewarded with the prize for the best senior player.

We now come to the top four players.

Peter Hillen (11 now 10) had his best round of the season, 41 points, and he finished in fourth place. The highlights of his round were birdies at the third, seventh and ninth holes.

Paul Mark (19) was third, also with 41 points. A double bogey five at the last hole was a bit of a downer for Mark but the rest of his round was excellent.

Glenn Buchanan (20 now 19) was second, with yet another 41 points. He too took a double bogey at the last hole but it didn’t matter. He would have needed a birdie two to catch the winner.

The winner, with a fabulous score of 44 points, was Joseph Brush (19 now 17). Joseph is a relatively new member of the club and he obviously is getting the hang of this difficult game. Joseph played well throughout and finished with a flourish. A brilliant birdie two at the long par three 18th hole was the icing on the cake.

This was a glorious way for Joseph to round off the season. I suppose he cannot wait for Summer 2013. We all feel the same way.
