Junior team in cup final

The ladies branch travelled to Bangor Golf Club on Friday, August 10, to watch two teams compete in the foursomes finals.

The Senior team, captained by Bronagh McKavanagh were first out.

Bronagh and Niamh McSherry were the first out followed by the Allen sisters, Katie and Zoe, with Lynne Hanna and Sian Mulholland bringing up the rear. They faced a very strong Clandeboye team and the challenge proved too great as the team fought hard but went down in all matches.

The Junior foursomes, captained by May Baxter, followed them out to face Castlerock Golf Club.

First out were Ray Gregg and Olwyn Forrester, followed by Lady Captain Dee Farrell and Christine Hagan, and Katrina Bradford with Maeve Cummins.

Dee and Christine played a great game to win 5 and 4. The Castlerock third pair was no match for the third Lurgan pair of Katrina and Maeve, as this blend of youth and experience finished their opponents off on the thirteenth to win 7 and 5. Ray and Olwyn were called in at the 17th with the match all over.

So there was disappointment for the Senior team, but they had some consolation watching the Junior team win through to a final. So another great day arrived for the Ladies’ branch with two Ulster finals and one All-Ireland final to look forward to at the end of August.
