Kenny and Jim win a high quality tussle in first President’s Prize semi

As expected there were a lot of birdies on the first nine holes with Rory and Kenny both halving the 9th in birdies to leave Stevenson/Mallon 1up.

The turning point in this match was a great up and down by Jim on the 10th hole for a 3 (nett 2) to go 2up. Kenny and Jim closed out a 4/3 victory to book their place in the President’s Day final.

It is good to see matches of this quality still being played at Banbridge and in such a great spirit as well.

Banbridge lost narrowly to Co Cavan GC in the first leg last week. They trailed by 4 – 3 (and 9 holes down) coming back to Banbridge.

In the home leg Banbridge didn’t make a great start when Scott Nelson lost by 4/3 and Callum Barnes lost by 5/3. Rory McMullan won the next match for Banbridge by 5/4 and parity was restored when the Crory brothers Josh and Luke won their games by 6/5 and 8/7 respectively.

When Gary McConville lost his game by 2/1 Co Cavan were again one match in front and ahead on holes again. As circumstances would transpire, the Co Cavan player scheduled to play Patrick McNiff was unable to travel. This meant the match had to be conceded to Banbridge and the rules say a 10/8 victory recorded. The 10 holes for Banbridge meant that they go through to the quarter final to play Edenmore GC. Phew!
