Kenny comes good in final week

His round contained 10 pars and 4 bogeys and this victory will have gone some way to restore a golfing reputation somewhat damaged over the year as he found himself being eclipsed by both his son and most of his playing partners.

The gross prize went to David Sutton with 30 gross points. He went out in 1 over par but came home in 3 under for yet another sub-par round. This continued a remarkable run of performances in the Winter League and for the 6 weeks he has gone: -1, level, level, level, +1, -2. This leaves him at -2 for the League and must surely land him the overall gross prize.

The low section saw a return to the prizes for Paul Dickson with 35 pts off 7. Balancing birdies at the 5th and 10th with bogeys at the 2nd and 12th, he completed his round in level par.

John Hartnett’s 32 pts off 7 were enough to give him second place in the section and see him continue on his prize-winning way. Birdies at the 10th, 12th and 15th enabled him to secure his position by virtue of his back 9. John edged out the unlucky Morris Lyness who was round in just 2 over par which saw him claim 2nd place in the Shootout low section.

Kevin McKavanagh, 31 pts, Francis Tallon and Joe Dowey Jnr, 30 pts, just missed out on the prizes. Francis will be particularly disappointed that while he came nowhere close to qualifying for the Shootout Finals, close rival Denis McInerney made a late surge to qualify by a single point.

The middle section went to Neale McKinstry with 35 pts off 8. Birdies at the 5th and 15th helped him complete the course in just 1 over par and claim yet another prize for this noted golfing family.

Young Daire Hogan took second place with 33 pts off 12 while Sean Scullion took third place with 33pts off 10.

Johnny McEvoy returned yet another 34 pts but found himself handicapped out of the prizes. Tom Creaney, Rory Brady, Denis McInerney, Aidan Thornbury, Stephen Loughran and Paul McConaghy came close with 32pts.

Chris Godfrey has been playing very impressive golf for quite a while now and it was no surprise to see him lift the high section with 34pts off 19. Although he didn’t score at either the 5th or 18th holes, he covered the rest of the course in just 5 over par.

Bill Leslie is never far from the prizes and his 32 pts off 13 gave him second. David O’Neill has been returning impressive scores and up he popped again on Saturday to take third with 32pts.
