Kenny has four shots to spare

Kenny Hylands was the overall victor on the day by a wide margin of 4 shots better than his nearest challenger, he finished his round with a score of 7 up against par. This got Kenny a two shot cut to his handicap and now plays off 19. The best gross of the day was won by Phillip Sheldon playing off 1 and finishing on 72.

The section winners were as follows:

Section one (0-13) handicap winner was Paul Murray on 3 up on par followed by Brian Anderson in the runners spot with a 2 up on par. Brian beat Stephen Hylands on a better back nine who also returned a 2 up on par score.

In section two (14-18) handicaps, where 1st, 2nd and 3rd all finished on level par. After countback the positions were, winner, Graham Cantley with the best back nine, from Jonathon McGahey with 3rd place going to Martin Wright.

The Section three (19-22) handicap also had a tie for first and second on 2up. This time Martin Cassidy was the victor on countback from John Graham also on 2up. Noel Weeks came 3rd on 1 up.

The section four (23-28) handicap section had a clear winner with Craig McVeigh on 2up from Bobby Cosgrove finishing 2nd on minus 1 beating Martin Steele on countback.

The conditions were ideal for great golf in the Wednesday medal competition, as was well reflected in the low scoring. Richard Greer had the round of his life as he returned a net 62 for the outright victory. Paddy O’Hagan has had a low golfing profile of late but his finishing score of net 63 for 2nd place brings him a reduction in his handicap to an all time low of 13.

Third place was taken by Colin Whan. Colin playing off an 8 handicap shot 74 for a net score of 66. Peter Foers played himself into 4th spot with a net 67. Single figure handicapper Paddy Agnew playing off a 5 handicap won the gross on the day with a score of 74.

The over 50s open competition took place last Monday in calm and humid conditions. For the 2nd week in a row Ronnie Girvan has been the man in the driving seat. After last week’s brilliant win Ronnie played a superb round of golf to finish on 40pts off his 10 handicap. Former brilliant hockey player Bobby Irvine has now turned his hand to golf and is showing his battling qualities to the extreme. Bobby finished in a superb 2nd place with 39pts. William Moffett occupied the 3rd spot with an excellent 38pts. Peter Foers won the gross with a score of 82.

Cherry Logan won the Tuesday competition with 35 pts scoring a two on the eleventh hole on her way to victory.

In the O2 competition on Saturday the winner was Lady Captain Heather Patterson with 34 pts followed by Heather Fleming on 33pts.

Heather Patterson and Elaine Thompson had an excellent round at Royal County Down scoring an excellent 43 pts come first in a field of 47 clubs and win the Daisy Ferguson Trophy.

Edenmore’s Jack Craig’s mixed team came third at Rockmount in what were good conditions for playing golf.
