Kenny leads cowdy team to the final

This left the match very evenly balanced and Banbridge were very aware that this match had still to be won.

The storms that were forecast didn’t arrive but conditions were very windy and difficult for both teams.

Rory Leonard was first out for Banbridge and was conceeding three shot to his opponent round his home course. Rory used all his vast experience to win his match by one hole and secure 3.5 points for Banbridge.

Colin Wilton lost his match but recovered from 1 down with 2 to play to win the second nine and a crucial point for Banbridge.

Rory Madeley also continued his recent good form to win his match and another 3.5 points. Banbridge now had 8 of the 11.5 points they needed for victory.

Luke Woods followed his stunning score on Saturday with a very comfortable maximum 4 points and Banbridge were now in the final of the Senior Cowdy Cup 2013 against Armagh Golf Club.

Junior Burns won the first nine in his match and was 1 up with 2 to play.

Paul Magennis also won the first nine in his match and was 1 up with 3 to play.

Johnny Shannon scored an emphatic victory of 5/4 and was looking good for 3.5 points at least.

Kieran Magennis had lost the first nine in his match and was absolutley delighted to get called in on the 13th.

This was perhaps the performance of the season so far in the Senior Cowdy Cup this year.

At the semi final stage against a good Dungannon team and a match that could go either way, Banbridge delivered a cynical performance recording a more comphrensive victory away from home than they did at home. That doesn’t happen too often and hopefully their current rich vein of form continues into the final against Armagh.

To say that team captain Kenny Stevenson was pleased was an understatement and he is relishing the thought of yet another final - Banbridge’s third in four years.

Hopefully, Kenny can bring the trophy back to Banbridge for the third time in four years also against last years beaten finalists.
