Ladies brave the elements

LAST Tuesday on a wild and blustery day, 60 plus ladies braved the weather to compete for Fiona Cummins’s prize at Lurgan.

There was only one lady who broke par and that was Nuala Beatty who recorded an excellent 37 pts. Nuala continues her steady start to the year and while the other competitors had many a good score blown off course,

Nuala was able to dig deep and get her score. The single figure golfers were away starring at the Ulster Women’s Championship at Belvoir on Tuesday and there was great anticipation with the ladies left behind as to

who would get the gross prize in their absence. When play was finished at the end of the day it was Cara Murphy who stepped up to the plate and secured the gross.

The section winners this week were all first time winners this year. Heather Shaw made her first appearance in the winning circle by winning Section 1 with 34 pts.

Heather had a very tidy card with the only real blemish being her seven at the last.

Alison King did very well to win section 2 with 34 pts. Likewise Joy Stevenson was only playing her second card of the season and also did very well to win section 3 with a score of 34

pts. While the scoring was low all the ladies deserve great credit for braving the elements and supporting the competition.
