Lady Captain’s Day held at Lisburn

Lady Captain of Lisburn Golf Club, Margaret Boyd, hosted a very successful Captain’s Day on Tuesday June 16.

Mrs. Boyd welcomed over 100 members and guests to her Stableford Competition with play commencing at 8.45am and running smoothly to late afternoon.

To everyone’s delight, the weather conditions were excellent and the course was in superb order, ensuring lots of run on the ball and perfect scoring conditions.

Refreshments of scones and strawberries were available to the ladies throughout the day and family and friends were entertained to afternoon tea in the clubhouse.

Following the competition, the ladies and visitors returned to the clubhouse in the evening and were welcomed with a glass of Buck’s Fizz and enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Albert and served by Jane and her team.

Before the prize presentation, Lady Captain thanked all the participants who played and the many people who contributed to the success of her special day. They included the members of the committee for all their help and advice, the Greens staff for the excellent condition of the course, the kitchen and bar staff as well as the office staff.

Colleen Logan and Joyce Anderson were commended for organising the beautiful flower arrangements while Vera Hewitt was thanked for looking after the outdoor plant containers which provide a welcoming splash of colour for all members.

Special mention went to Peter Cairns for taking photographs of all the competitors on the first tee throughout the day. Finally, she thanked her family for their support during what is always a very busy year.

The Lady Captain then proceeded to distribute her prizes to the worthy winners:

The over-all winner of Lady Captain’s Day 2015 was Janice Orr with an impressive score of 40 stableford points.

Section A:- 1st Amy Jeffers 38 pts, 2nd Louise MacDonnell 38 pts, 3rd Joy Hall 34 pts.

Section B:- 1st Helen Shepherd 38 pts, 2nd Janet Walker 35 pts, 3rd Marie Hegarty 35 pts.

Section C:- 1st Margaret Weir 32 pts, 2nd Patricia Clarke 31 pts, 3rd Trish Neville 30 pts.

The Gross prize was won by Janice Wallace while Carol McBratney won the front nine prize with 22 pts and Colleen Logan won the back nine with 19 pts.

The Committee prize went to Gil Colvin and the Past Captain’s prize to Sylvia Carr, with Hazel Henderson taking the nine hole honours.

Nearest the pin at the 6th went to Carol McBratney while nearest the pin at the 18th went to Janice Wallace. The putting prize was won by Rosie Leech and Carol McBratney was the only competitor with a two.

The visitor’s prize was won by Marie McKibben and Dessie Kerr took the Gents prize with 22 points over 9 holes.

Accepting her prize, Janice thanked the Lady Captain for the beautiful jewellery on behalf of all the prize winners. She also thanked her playing partners who encouraged her during her winning round.

The Lady Captain’s chosen charity was Alzheimer’s Society and she was delighted to have raised more than £760 for this worthy cause.
