Lawrence hits top form

THE 66 golfers playing in last week’s Wednesday Sweep at Lurgan took full advantage of the better conditions.

The winner of the midweek sweep was Lawrence Mitchell. This 12 handicapper won with an outstanding return of 37 points. He played exquisitely on both halves of the course. He made five pars on the front side. His other scores were a birdie on the third and a bogey on the fifth.

On the inward seven he ran up a double bogey on the fourteenth. Birdies on holes fifteen and eighteen rectified the damage. Pars on the rest of the holes helped him to this grandiose total.

Terence Eagers was runner up with an impressive haul of 35 points. This sixteen handicapper had a mixed run on the front seven. He combined pars at holes two, eight and nine with four bogeys. He played the back seven in level par figures with five pars, a bogey on the fifteenth and a birdie on the last.

Ian Montgomery also shot a seven under par tally of 35 points to claim the last net prize on offer. This seventeen handicapper had a mixed bag of scores from a no-return on the sixth to birdies on the second and eighteenth holes. However pars at holes eight, nine, ten, twelve, fourteen and seventeen earned him the spoils on the day.

Six handicapper Andrew Gates captured the weekly gross prize. Andrew posted a total of 26 points to nab the honours. His opening seven began with a brace of pars and closed with a par and a birdie. A bogey, par, bogey sequence was his back seven opening. He conclude his round with two pars and back to back birdies.
