League title wide open as Mulhollands are beaten by Higgins

The McLean Premier league title race was blown wide open as Higgins inflicted a first defeat on defending champions Mulhollands.

Higgins came back from the previous week’s defeat to claim a great victory. The ever reliable Michael McClean started the night off with a great finish in frame one and the night only got better as Gareth Moody re-discovered the winning feeling in the next. It helps your cause to have three former individual champions following in the next three frames and they were all in awesome form as this match was put to bed by the fifth frame. Colly Wilton, Noel Meara and Paddy Donaghy sank their respective blacks to seal Mulhollands fate.

Market Bar are now tied at the top of the table, thanks to their 6 - 2 win over Cullens. The two newly capped international players got the home side off to the perfect start as Mark Howe and Kieron Mallon were successful. Trevor Ashe made it 3-0 as The Market cruised to victory to continue their recent great form.

Banbridge Legion overtook The Coach in the table with a 5-3 away win, inflicting a third defeat in four games to the now second-bottom Coach side.

The match was tied going into the doubles but the Legion took both those games to claim a tense victory.

Castle Bar built on their win over Higgins by beating Detroit 5-3 away. They’re now just two points off the top of the table and are certainly in with a shout of the title after this win that came down to the doubles matches, tied 3-3 after the singles games.
