Lewers men take first leg ‘Two Bridges’ lead to Foyle

Last Saturday Faughan Valley hosted Foyle Golf Club in the annual ‘Two Bridges’ competition with Faughan Valley trying to regain the trophy, while Foyle was trying to hang on to it and the encounter was closer than the recent Ryder Cup.

To say the least the rivalry was tense, and with all to play going through the tenth, Faughan Valley took the back nine by storm and the match ended with Trevor Lewers’ side winning by a margin of 8.5 matches to 1.5 matches to take to Foyle for the return match, in two weeks time.

In the open stableford competition playing off the forward tees the winner was 15 handicapper Robert Hayes with a score of 43 points.

Second spot went to Michael Galbraith (23) after he scored 41 points and third spot went to 23 handicapper Alan McWhirter who finished with 39 points.

On Sunday it was the start of the winter League, with the first card running till Saturday, this weekend a Open Stableford Competition is down for decision and also this Saturday Forglen GAA are holding a four man classic, with a four ball at Ballyliffin up for grabs for the winning team.
