Lewers shows them how to do it

FAUGHAN Valley’s former Captain Trevor Lewers came out on top in the club’s first open stableford competition of the year.

The Lifford Greyhound Stadium St Patrick’s Day Open was played in near perfect conditions last Thursday, with Lewers (22) finishing with 44 points to lead home the 110 strong field.

Second spot was claimed after a break of tie finish to young Shane McGahon (20) who scored 40 points, while Brian Gallagher (16) was third after he too finished on 40 points.

Big hitting Bee Kelly (4), also had a day to remember when he claimed the gross prize after scoring 69 points, he also hit the longest drive at the eleventh hole and was one of five members - Margaret Armstrong, Peter Hasson, Trevor Lewers and Barry Reilly - to claim a prize at the two’s.

Thomas Parkhill (16) with 22 points won the front nine and Philip George (21) scored 21 points to win the back nine, while Chris Nutt was nearest the pin at the tenth hole.

In the ladies competitions Margaret Armstrong (24) with 34 points came out on top and Evelyn Smith (36) with 30 points was second.

Meanwhile the weekend (Confined) Stroke competition was claimed by Shane McGahon (20) Net 60, second was Martin McGlynn (15) Net 61 and Raymond Simpson (20) Net 64 was third.

Members are reminded that the new fixture list is now available in the club-house and GUI and Insurance monies are also now due.
