Lisburn are beaten in the final of Sam Rutherford trophy

With a massive 14 holes deficit after the away leg, Dessie Kerr’s team did well to win their home match by seven holes.

Lisburn’s top pair Mark Jamison and David Armstrong could not compete with their opponents on and around the greens and lost by five holes.

David McCallister and Ian Suffern recovered from five down to lose by only one hole.

Andy Parr and Stephen Stewart were Lisburn’s first winners. They were four ahead after 15 holes and held the advantage to the end when Andy holed from six feet on the final green.

Gary Campbell and Brian Houston were one ahead after five holes and then marched on to win by nine holes.

This gave Lisburn a home victory of seven holes which halved the initial deficit.

At the presentation the Lisburn team captain Dessie Kerr congratulated Killymoon on their success and thanked his own players for the effort they had made in reaching the final.

The trophy and pennant were presented to the Killymoon team by David Allen, convener of the Cowdy competitions.

Over two hundred competitors competed for the Robert Wilson Trophy at the weekend.

In ideal conditions it was no surprise that there were eight scores in the sixties.

Ivor Walker (15) and James Mulholland (12) led the field on 66.

Both finished with par threes but a six at 17 proved expensive for James to leave Ivor the winner.

Alan Taylor (19) and Gary McCambley (13) finished on 67 with the latter getting the verdict on count back for third place.

Kevin Smyth (13) and Thomas Ferguson (21) were one stroke further back followed by Alan Murphy (12) and Norman McNellis (3) on 69. Norman finished six, two for his round of 72.

One of the early leaders after nine holes was Stephen Orr (21) who went out in 42 but took an extra ten strokes on the back nine.

Glenn Walsh hit the ‘shot of the day’ when he holed a wedge shot at the second for an eagle two.
