Outstanding golf from Randal Kernaghan gave Lisburn their first point. Randal had a birdie at the third on his way to a lead of six holes by the turn. He ended the contest by almost holing his second shot at the par four 12th. His victory by 8 and 6 could well be the largest away victory in the competition.

At almost the same time Brian Rainey won his match on the 15th. Brian missed the green at the par three but chipped to ten feet. His opponent, Stephen McCreedy, left his tee shot about six feet from the flag. Brian got his four and watched in disbelief as Stephen three putted to give Brian a half for victory by 4 & 3. Les Murdock and Keith McCrum were ahead in their matches when called in. Team captain Neil Patton was delighted with his players and is looking forward to the next match against the winners of the clash between Warrenpoint and Castlerock.

Belfast and District Cup

As expected the Lisburn team was beaten by Kirkistown Castle. Team captain Norman McNellis was Lisburn’s only winner at Kirkistown.

Ulster Fourball Trophy

Lisburn just made it through to the second round of the Ulster Fourball competition at Castlerock. The locals won the top two matches but the next three matches went down to the wire. Kieran Lyness and David Waterworth clinched Lisburn’s first point on the final green. Martin McDonald and Michael Rooney also won on the 18th green while Glen Cruickshanks and Barry Cathcart scraped a half.
