Lisburn hosts Mayor’s charity golf competition

Over £5,000 was raised at the Coca Cola Mayor’s Charity Golf day at Lisburn last week.

Twenty teams took part in the competition which was organised by Alderman Paul Porter and Maurice Leathem. After receiving ‘goodie bags’ supplied by the PRM group competitors got off to a shot-gun start.

The prize giving followed an excellent buffet supper. The Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, thanked all those who had helped organise the event and the Lisburn captain Mr Peter Cairns for the use of the course. Stephen Hamill the Lisburn club professional and Andrew Morris ware also thanked for donating the prizes.

The prize giving concluded a most enjoyable and successful day. The money raised will be go to Lagan Valley Hospital Diabetes unit.

Ken’s Knights were the winners with 98 points. The Spice is Nice team were second on 90 followed by Martin Philips Carpets on 89. Mark Cockram hit the longest drive while John Lappin left his tee shot at the 18th less than two feet from the flag. He managed to three putt from this short distance when it seemed easier to hole out for a birdie two.

Lisburn defeat Knock in Fred Daly

Lisburn defeated Knock 5 – 2 in the home leg of the Fred Daly for an aggregate 9 – 5 victory. Christian Kennedy lost the opening match to James McVicker who had three birdies in the first six holes. He went on to shoot three more birdies and win on the 12th green. Lisburn had good wins from Craig Ryan (2 & 1), Mark McNellis (5 & 4), Mark Armstrong (2 &1), Kyle Patton (5 & 4) and Josh Hamilton (3 & 2).

Pierce Purcell

Barry McQuillan and Colin Hill shot Lisburn’s best score with a round of 86 at Silverwood. Unfortunately the other pairs were not at their best as Lisburn’s total of 365 was eight too many.

Lisburn had a 4 – 3 home victory over Rockmount. Alan Gilmore & Ciaran Lyness won their match 7 & 6. They were well supported by Glen Cruickshanks & Philip Stewart who won by 4 & 2 while Barry Cathcart & Billy Gregge dovetailed well to win by 5 & 4. Lisburn carry an eight holes advantage to next week’s return match.

Best Gross Points Stephen Shaw (4) 36 pts

Congratulations to Aaron Marshall who had a hole in one at the sixth in the competition. His four iron shot landed on the green and rolled straight into the hole. This is the second time Aaron has achieved an ace. Earlier he had a hole in one at the fourth.

Wednesday Stableford: 1st Ciarn Lyness (21) 42 pts, 2nd Neil Larmour (16) 40 pts, 3rd Andrew Parr (9) 38 pts.

Ulster Cup

After an excellent victory over Shandon Park, Lisburn play Warrenpoint in the second round home leg match next Sunday.
