Lisburn receive new trophy

Lisburn Golf Club received a new trophy last week when Mrs May Press presented the club with a magnificent cup in memory of her late husband Eddie a past captain and president.

Dr Sam Moore received the cup on behalf of the club. The Eddie Press memorial trophy will be awarded to the ‘Golfer of the Year’ at the club dinner next week.

The first attempt at completing the final of the Hilden Cup had to be abandoned in September when Joe O’Neill’s club broke when playing a shot resulting in his hand becoming very badly injured. The competition was completed last Sunday with Joe conceding eight strokes to Neil Larmour.

Neill got off to a great start and was three ahead after five holes. Joe won four of the next six holes to go one up. He went dormey three ahead but lost 16 and 17. Neil holed a long putt for a par three on the final green but Joe got down in two putts for victory. Neil won the Craig Cup earlier in the year.

Over 70 competitors took part in last Sunday’s Winter league competition. Results: 1st Alan Gilmore 23 pts, 2nd Chris Furfey 22 pts, 3rd Ted Mulholland 21 pts (on last 4 holes). Closest to flag at 4th Brian Houston. Closest to flag at 6th Tommy Beattie

Wednesday Stableford: 1st David Gardiner 20pts, 2nd Brian Sparkes 20pts, 3rd Brian Houston 20pts. Alan Gilpin was the big winner as he was the only competitor to manage a birdie two. With no winner from the previous week Alan collected £60 in the roll over.
