Lisburn Winter League Qualifiers final round

The final round of the Lisburn winter league took place last Saturday over the back nine holes.

Ricky Neill & Terry Smith and Graham Kerr & Brian Sparkes tied with 24 points at the top of Group 1.

Graham & Brian qualified as they won the match between the pairs.

Mervyn Law & Mervyn Hewitt were outright winners of Group 2 with 22 points.

Group 3 leaders Mark Jamison and Declan Marsden won their final match against Kenneth Alderdice and Mervyn Mawhinney to top the group with 22 points.

Neil Thompson and Norman Lambe must be favourites to win the competition after maintaining a 100% record to win Group 4.

In Group 5, Tommy Beattie & Andrew Gibb lost their final match to Richard McDowell and Philip Sanaghan.

Philip hit the shot of the day from the forest on the right of the 17th fairway through the trees on to the green to snatch a half.

Tommy and Andrew had halved their match with David McDowell and George Stevens.

Both pairs finished with 18 points which will require a play-off.

The long time leaders in Group 6, Peter Cairns & David Megrath lost their final match to Jim Patterson & David Phelan.

Both pairs finished with 22 points but the latter qualified as they won the decisive encounter.

Stephen Leathem & Sam McCallister defeated Group 7 leaders Ian Shane & Tom Dougherty to snatch Group 7 with 22 points.

Roy Stewart and Kenny Gilmore won their final match to win Group 8 with 26 points.

The quarter final draw for the group winners is: 1 v 4, 2 v 3, 6 v 8 and 7 v 5.

Wednesday Stableford: 1st Bob Patterson 23 pts, 2nd Jim Burns 23 pts, 3rd George McCaigue 21 pts.

Sunday Winter League:1st Kenneth Gilmore 25pts, 2nd George Stephens 22pts, 3rd Colin Smyth 22pts.
